I’m gearing up for the third annual Insta-Inspire Photography Retreat, which is the weekend of photo fun for female photographers that my crew and I have been planning. This year we’re in Charleston, South Carolina, the last weekend in April and all I’m asking is for good weather juju.
As my mind is preoccupied with all things photography conference, it got me thinking about how many amazing events there are out there throughout the year. So it’s roundup time! I want to share some events I’m familiar with and I’d love to hear what conferences you’ve been to that have escaped my list.
My Top Photography Events…
Insta-Inspire Photography Retreat (duh): I am totally bias, but this retreat is special because we cap the size to 100 photographers. This allows everyone to really interact and create connections, which is the entire reason you travel and take time off from life to attend one of these events. Our schedule is jam packed and I believe everyone leaves truly inspired.
Click Away: This was the first conference I ever went to right after I decided I really wanted to pursue photography. I was overwhelmed but encouraged after seeing some photography rock stars speak on stage (Sue Bryce, anyone?). And I went back a second time in 2018 when one of my images was displayed as a part of The Voice Collection. This conference is a more leisurely pace, which feels like a new little vacation in the midst of all the education.
Imaging USA: 2019 was my first year attending Imaging USA and, for some reason, I went in with low exceptions. Perhaps it was the grand scheme of the event with thousands of attendees (and y’all know I’m all about the small, intimate vibe) but the conference blew me away! There was such a variety of content and instructors, and I truly learned so much at the product expo. 2020 will be in Nashville, and I will definitely be there!
NAPCP Educational Summit: While I was down in Atlanta for Imaging USA, I learned about the NAPCP event and decided to add that to my itinerary. This was a one-day, small event with about 30 photographers, and I loved getting to meet people in such a personal way. I met two of my personal rock star photographers - seen in the photo! - and I learned some actionable takeaways to apply to my business. Total win!
Those above events are the conferences I have personally experienced. But there are so many others out there that have peaked my interest and may be closer to you.
Photo Native: I have some friends who just returned from this event and the reviews are super positive! And Palm Springs? Count me in.
Elevate + Grow: This is from one of my favorite photography groups, Dear Photographer. Everything they do is awesome, and I’d imagine the retreat is no different.
Create Photography Retreat: I’ve been listening to the Improve Photography podcast for years now, and this is their event to bring their hosts and followers into one place. This is on my list to check out!
WPPI Conference: This is another big down conference like Imaging USA. I have heard it is awesome for those in the wedding photography world.
Photo Plus Expo: I’ve heard over 20,000 photographers attend this, so it must be worthwhile!
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to in-person learning experiences. There are so many opportunities for large scale events, intimate retreats and one-on-one mentorships & smaller workshops. Bottom line, if you want to learn there is a place out there for you to do so!
