When I picked up my first DSLR when my daughter was born, I had no idea the wild adventure this photography journey would take me. I never envisioned one of my images being celebrated at a large photography conference, nor would I have ever imagined - in the grandest of schemes - that I would be planning a photography retreat myself. For the second year in a row.
Any photographer on Instagram will tell you it is a place to be inspired and connect and make internet friends. And last year my close friend (and crazy talented photographer) Erica Bowton came up with this idea to take those internet friends and bring them into real life. So she brought me on board and I dragged my friend Natalie into the mix, called it the Insta-Inspire Retreat and somehow we were able to bring together 65 of our favorite IG photographers for a weekend of fun in Connecticut. We had no idea what we were doing - as Erica said, "This is clearly a mom & pop operation" - but we knew it needed to happen again.
Fast forward to this weekend, where a planning team of myself and four other photographers have nearly 100 female photographers joining us in Salt Lake City, Utah. We've got the biggest names on Instagram featured in our line-up - Meg Loeks and Tara Herron anyone? And we've got models ready to roll, gorgeous photo session locations scoped out and a lot of camaraderie and fun along the way. Oh, and my favorite lens company Tamron is our presenting sponsor! Not saying I'll be walking away with a new lens, but I'm not saying I won't.
I'll be back to update you on how the 2018 version of our retreat went down! Keeping our fingers crossed for sunny weather in the meantime...
